Jon and Laura had a gorgeous sunny day for their outdoor fall wedding at Laketown Golf and Conference Center last month! In Michigan it can be a little brave to hold and outdoor wedding, but that didn’t deter Jon and Laura from planning their outdoor ceremony! In the past we have had outdoor weddings that ranged from 40 degrees to 98 degrees. I don’t know what the actual temperature was, but it didn’t seem too hot or too cold!
Laura started her day at her parents home in Holland with hair and makeup. Laura and her bridesmaids enjoyed spending time together getting ready as Jon went out to lunch with his groomsmen. After they both arrived at Laketown and finished their preparations, they had a special first meeting outdoors near the golf course.
The sun was shinning, the temperature was perfect for an outdoor fall day, and love was in the air. After the first meeting, we spent some time photographing the bride and groom, wedding party, and family.
The ceremony couldn’t have been more perfect. The sun getting low in the sky as they celebrated the Lord’s supper with their children for the first time as a family during the wedding ceremony. It was a touching show of their dedication to Jesus and their family. They also showed a little fun for their sporting interests… with a little Ohio State and Michigan rival reference. Agree to disagree with this divided house of loyalties!
After the ceremony we all headed inside Laketown Golf and Conference Center for the evening celebrations. The food was wonderful. The music and dancing was spectacular. Jon and Laura danced the night away.
It was an honor and a privilege to be able to share with Jon and Laura on their wedding day. We captured some amazing pictures! If you would like to see more of them, make sure you watch their slide show here. Congratulations to Jon and Laura and to their families as you start your new life together!
Mike and Fiona had their Grand Rapids area wedding at Saint Sebastian Church in Byron Center. It was a beautiful sunny day for all their friends and family to gather together and witness the marriage. It also brought family together from all over the globe! Fiona and her parents are from Germany, and used to live in GA. Her parents now live in California. They had relatives attend the wedding from Germany and most of the wedding party was from GA! After the ceremony, we spent a little time doing some family pictures in the sanctuary and then spent some time doing beautiful portraits in the old historic church on the property.
We then loaded up in the limo they had rented, and headed to the covered bridge in Ada. That is a fun place to take a wedding party…. we created some great pictures outside and also inside the covered bridge. It was a busy day at the Leonard Park! After spending some time at the park, we finished up with some portraits at Sunnybrook Country club.
The reception was perfect at Sunnybrook County Club in Grandville. Good food and drink, good friends and family, and some music always make for a great night. Congratulations to Mike and Fiona, as they start their new life together as husband and wife. If you would like to see more pictures, watch the slideshow here, then wish Mike and Fiona blessings in their new life!
Brian and Julie picked a fall day for their Bay Pointe Inn wedding on Gun Lake in Michigan. We had been watching the weather all week…. with rain in the forecast. As the day started, we were hoping the rain would pass! We kept a careful eye on the sky. As Julie and Brian were in the wedding preparations, a small storm went through. Finally, the air cleared, and we were able to go outdoors for some outdoor photos!
Brian and Julie have a total of 8 children, who made up the wedding party! It was a very special day for the two of them to join their families. We finished up some of the wedding party photos, but still had to do our bride and groom pictures when the rain started! We found some nice places that had a covering at and near the Bay Pointe Inn.
As the rain started and stopped, the question loomed in the air… Will the ceremony be able to be held outdoors as planned? They decided to postpone the start of the ceremony, hoping the rain would break… Finally, there was a break in the rain. So, we all headed out to the ceremony site… shortly after the bride walked down the aisle, it started to rain! Everyone ran for cover under the pavilion, and we finished the ceremony in the tent!
Brian is a firefighter, so he had a little fun with a fire extinguisher when he came out to remove the garter from Julie. They danced the night away as the rain finished up for the evening. Congratulations Brian and Julie! If you would like to see more, make sure you watch the slideshow here!
It’s Senior Session Season at Kari Douma Photography and we’ve been busy photographing seniors Downtown Grand Rapids and in our Studio in Downtown Grandville. We’ve had wild weather in West Michigan during the month of September! Hot and humid, and storm clouds threatening rain, so we’ve been especially thankful for our indoor studio (where we can control the climate) in Downtown Grandville!
Isaac came to our studio from Forest Hills Eastern planning for a few fun soccer shots and also some more traditional portraits for the yearbook and his family. At Kari Douma Photography, we like to meet our clients before their session, that way we can find out about you, your interests, hobbies, and also what you’re looking for specifically when it comes to Senior Portraits. We strive to create a customized session, tailored to meet your portrait needs, and also to showcase your personal style and attitude. We don’t just want you to love how you look, we also want you to walk away with stunning portrait art that you and your family will be proud to display for generations!
Some of our seniors come in knowing exactly what they’re looking for… that was the case for Tyler’s session. He was going for a specific look, and we knew we could create that for him in Downtown Grand Rapids (without his portraits looking “like everyone else’s”, which was really important to his mom). We made sure to chose locations for Tyler’s session that we knew would give them the portrait look they were hoping for (lots of textures and interesting backgrounds that weren’t overused, as well as some lush green space, which isn’t always easy to find in the city).
If you’re still trying to decide what to do for Senior portraits this fall (or planning ahead for next spring, it’s always good idea to get a jump start on planning!) we can help you find just the right location to showcase your style! The possibilities are truly endless… we’ve done senior sessions at probably every park you can think of, as well as beaches, downtowns, barns, country fields, small towns, large towns, on top of garages, in pools, ponds, lakes, at schools, at the airport, on fields (baseball, football, soccer) and courts (volleyball, tennis, basketball).
With autumn leaves, winter snow, spring rain, summer sun. Pretty much anything you can think of, we can do it! We love seniors, and we want you to love your senior portrait session too! Call Kari if you’d like more information about booking a senior session for this year, or if you’re planning ahead for next year… we’d love to create a session especially fit for you. You can reach us by phone or email: 616.437.5603 or firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also find us on Facebook: Kari Douma Photography.
Autumn is a great time of year to plan senior sessions for rural parks and gardens in West Michigan, and Kari Douma Photography would love to create beautiful images for your yearbook, and graduation cards or announcements! Fall colors will be arriving before we know it, and we have a few seniors who are still getting in last minute for their senior portraits before the flowers and green of summer is just a distant memory.
Josie came from Zeeland High School (just a few miles down Chicago Drive from our Studio in Downtown Grandville) for her senior session last month. She knew she wanted her senior portraits in a field with her violin, and she also loves barns, so we knew just where take her (and we had perfect weather too)! We love the images of Josie with her violin… the light that day was especially beautiful for an outdoor session. Here’s a few of our favorite images of Josie… if you’d like to see more, you can watch the slideshow here or by clicking the image below.
Lauren is a senior from South Christian High School. We photographed her senior portraits in August at a local park (that’s still lush and full of green, at least for a few more weeks!) Lauren chose beautiful colors to wear for her senior portraits (that really pop from the background). Choosing great outfits can really make or break your portrait, which is one reason we do planning meetings with all of our seniors before their session! During the planning meeting we talk about all the details of each session before we even start. Thinking about what colors you look great in, that will also work in the portrait surroundings for your session are important things to think about. It can mean the difference between a nice portrait, and one that makes you stand back and say,”WOW, that is stunning”! (We want to create stunning senior portraits for you!) You can call or contact us via email for more information about our portrait sessions: 616.437.5603 or email@example.com
Hello! If you’re just finding our website… welcome! We are Kari Douma Photography, a professional portrait studio located in West Michigan, in Downtown Grandville. We specialize in family and children photography, as well as weddings and seniors (and newborns too!). Ok, we love to photograph pretty much everyone 🙂 We offer private studio sessions, as well as at local parks, downtown, and beaches along the lakeshore. Basically, all of West Michigan!
These two cuties came to our studio in Grandville for some updated family portraits! (Don’t you just want to squeeze those cheekers?!?) So adorable 🙂 We appreciate the privilege it is for us to photograph your sweet kiddos over the years! We love to watch them grow and change right before our eyes (and cameras).
We also encourage families to have annual family portraits taken too! Lots of parents are great about photographing their kids, but not always as eager to be in the photographs themselves. You know what? Life’s too short to not be photographed! Don’t wait (for whatever it is you’re waiting to “do” before you have that family portrait taken). You can’t get the years back, and some day you will look back at how marvelous you looked “way back then” and wish you had a gorgeous portrait to prove it!
That’s one of the reasons why we offer a complementary family session for the seniors we photograph! We want to make sure that our senior’s don’t just have a great senior portrait on their parent’s wall before they head off to college, but also have a beautiful portrait of their family to take with them when they go.
When they’re little, the days are long… but the years are short. (Believe us, our kids are growing up faster than we can believe!) Capture these moments today. Before we know it, these cute little guys will be graduating and heading off to college!
Grand Rapids Executive Business Portraits by Kari Douma Photography… we want to help you add a great image to your name by creating business portraits you are proud to display on your company website and social media.
We have been photographing business executives and creating professional heashots for years now (it’s our job to make you look good!) No one wants to look at an unattractive portrait every day when they open their email or webpage, so if you don’t love your corporate headshot, come see us to let us create a portrait you will be proud to share! We have lots of options from a quick 15 minute head shot taken at our Studio on your lunch break, to full service executive portrait for your entire office on site, or in our studio in Downtown Grandville.
If you’re looking for a quick updated professional head shot, call us to schedule a 15 minute appointment (you can even come in during your lunch hour). We’ll give you a few options for background and poses -more formal and more casual- and you can choose your favorite image on the spot and be on your way (and still have time to grab lunch)! If you’d like to take a little more time to create a few different looks with several outfits and different backgrounds, we can set up a traditional executive session and allow more time for more options.
If you are looking for a photographer who can produce corporate head shots for your entire staff, we do that too! We will bring our lighting equipment and backdrop to your location to offer full service executive portraits right in the convenience of your office. Your employees won’t need to miss productive work time (or miss a lunch hour) since they can be photographed on site in a matter of minutes. We also offer the option of photographing your employees in practical daily scenarios if you’d like a sample of causal images to display on your website for clients to get a feel for how your offices works on a daily basis.
No matter what type of Business Portraits you’re looking for, we’ve got a solution for you. Contact Kari at 616-437-5603 (or firstname.lastname@example.org) today for details. We can set up a plan and customize it to meet the specific needs of your business.
It’s senior season for Grand Rapids area seniors at Kari Douma Photography… Grand Rapids Senior Sessions: Downtown, Beach & more!
Somehow summer always seems to fly by, and before you know it, it’s August and we’re counting down the days until school starts (and for all you seniors, that means your LAST – FIRST DAY of school)! We want to make sure you have a great experience for your senior portraits, so our senior sessions start with a planning meeting at our Studio in Downtown Grandville. We look forward to meeting all our new seniors a few weeks before their session, so we can spend time chatting about location, clothing options, and fun details like what sports, hobbies or activities we’re going to incorporate into your custom session. We like to get to know you before we start snapping photos, so that way when you come back for your session, we already know all the details of exactly what you’re hoping for, and we can spend your session time creating fun and exciting images!
We have a wide range of session options for you… from a quick 30 minute studio session for the senior who knows exactly what they are looking for (which is not lots of locations and outfit changes) to our Ultimate Senior session (which is 3 hours of unlimited locations and outfit changes). For those Seniors who don’t fall in the quick category, or the “I’ve been waiting for this for years, so we are going all out” category, we have the Just About Right session and Indoor/Outdoor session options too. Our goal is to create the perfect photography session that will give each senior the look they’re hoping for, and capturing their unique style and personality, all while having a great time!
Whether you’re thinking of a session at our studio, a local park, downtown Grand Rapids, a local beach along the lakeshore (or anywhere in between) we are confident that we can create a session experience for your senior portraits that will be everything you’re hoping for!
Amway Grand Plaza Wedding – Sam and JoAnna were married last month in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The morning preparations were done in the suites at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. It was a perfect location for their large wedding party. (14 bridesmaids and 15 groomsmen!) The morning was full of activity as the preparations continued. After getting ready at the Amway, Sam and the guys spent a little time outdoors having some of their groomsmen pictures taken, while JoAnna and some of her bridesmaids headed to her house for her to get her wedding dress on. As JoAnna walked down the stairs for the first time in her dress, and her bridesmaids and father saw her, they smiled in delight!
The ceremony was held at St. Nicholas. It was a beautiful ceremony filled with tradition and God’s blessings. The beautiful sanctuary was so stunning, and was fitting for such a beautiful wedding.
After the ceremony, the guests were transported back to the Amway, while we spent some time in the church doing group photos, then we headed to downtown Grand Rapids for a few more outdoor wedding pictures of the wedding party. We stopped at the famous blue bridge, and also did some photos outside by the Amway.
The guests were spending time at the cocktail hour, as they waited the grand opening of the reception room. It was absolutely beautiful. Bellisario Florist took care of the beautiful decorations. The floral arrangements were stunning, as well as the lighting, candles, and place settings. A fairytale wedding for sure.
Make sure you take a peek at the slideshow HERE to see more pictures from Sam and JoAnna’s special day!
Grand Rapids Michigan Wedding – Kim and Ryan held their summer wedding in Grand Rapids earlier this month! The girls all started off their day by having their hair and makeup done at Pure Salon in downtown Grand Rapids. It was the perfect setting to accommodate the bridal party, with beautiful natural light windows! From there, we headed over to Brookside CRC. The sun shown brightly, with blue skies abundant! The ceremony was perfect… they had a candle lighting ceremony with all the guests. This is something I have not seen before, and it was beautiful, as the friends and family of the bride and groom participated in this.
After the ceremony, we headed over to the beautiful “Sem Pond” at Calvin College. The sun was a little lower in the sky, giving us gorgeous lighting for our post ceremony portraits of the wedding party, and the bride and groom.
After leaving Calvin College, we headed over to The Bluff Banquet and Conference Center for a fun filled reception. The food was incredible, complete with a mashed potato bar… served in martini glasses! We were able to slip outside twice for pictures at the Bluff… once just as the sun was going down for some outdoor evening shots, and once after it was dark for some fun with sparklers.
It was so fun working with Kim and Ryan and their families on their wedding day! If you would like to see more of their portraits, make sure to check out the slide show here:
